Active Schools Week 2023
We had a great time in April during our Active Schools Week. The children had many opportunities to try out lots of different sports and be physically active. A huge thank you to the parents who gave freely of their time and expertise to help out. We had Angela Callaghan for dance, Linda Joyce for basketball, Paraic Mc Donald, Louise Magharan and Ashling Kennedy for Gaa (football and hurling), Paul O’Connor for soccer and Darran Conway from Tallaght Rugby Club for rugby. We also had playball, hip hop dancing and more Gaa from Séan Boyce in Ballyboden. Ms. Tynan did skipping sessions with the classes.
The first classes took a walk down to the weir in Firhouse. The Junior and Senior Infants had fun stations over in Scoil Treasa with the help of fifth classes and their teachers. Our second classes all completed the Mayor’s Mile in Old Bawn, again along with the help and support from Scoil Treasa’s great fifth classes Emma Murphy mayor of South Dublin came along on the day and walked with our children. She complemented them all on their taking part in her initiative. She gave each child a lovely bag with cycling accessories as a gift. Thank you !
We had a lovely visit from our local hero Niamh Coyne who is a past pupil. She is an elite swimmer on the Irish squad and we were very honoured that she came back to see us!
Well done to all the children and teachers on a lovely active week.
